Quotations
Questions
All these questions begin with a quotation. If you can't answer the question,
but do know where the quotation comes from (including the author if a written
source) then you can get half marks.
- "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again." How is the narrator of
the book which so starts usually referred to when discussing it?
- "'Time for bed' said Zebedee." Who wrote the words, including these?
- "If you can keep your head when all about you / Are losing theirs and
blaming it on you" and various other much parodied lines finishes up with
two consequences. Give either (you don't have to be word perfect).
- "Reader, I married him." Who married whom?
- "Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you are a plague,
and we are the cure." What is the name (loosely speaking) of the speaker.
- "_____ was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that."
Fill in the blank, and name his partner.
- "Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he
was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have
to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to." What specified this?
- "_____, _____, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the
world." Which group did the film soundtrack?
- "One, two! One, two! And through and through / The vorpal blade went
snicker-snack! / He left it dead, and with its head / He went galumphing
back". What had he killed? For the half value answer just give the
author.
- "The money counters will have to be cut out before you begin to play the
first time. [Footnote] If you can't get the money cut out, you have no
business trying to take over the world. Things are in enough of a mess
already." For this one the source and author will do for full marks.
