Ramsdencon September 1999 Film Quiz

The quiz was run as 10 rounds of 10 questions each

Scoring was 2 points for a correct answer, 1 point for a partially correct answer with no half points.

Each team was allowed a joker to double its points in one round (the first round was excluded). The rounds were all announced in advance, and the joker had to be played without hearing the questions. Some rounds were easier than others; if you picked a hard one, c'est la vie. (I did drop a couple of hints.)

There was also a handout with 100 pictures of actors and actresses to be identified during the quiz. Unfortunately I am unable to include it here. However the list of those pictured is given here. The picture quiz was also scored 2 points for a correct answer, 1 point for a partially correct answer. The main quiz and picture quiz were then combined, with the former score multiplied by 4, for an overall maximum score (with joker) of 1080.

Advice given to all teams: if you don't know the answer: guess.

To start follow the link here.

The maximum score by any team was 165 out of 220 (149 out of 200 without joker) in the main quiz and 852 overall (192 for pictures) all by The Aubergine That Ate Rangoon (that's the sort of team name you get at Ramsdencon) which consisted of Hilary and Mark Jones and Mark Wightman.

A few of the questions and answers are derived from the usual sources, such as the Internet Movie Database, Halliwell's Film and Video Guide, Empire magazine, and, in one case, to Tom Dewe Mathews's book Censored: The Story of Film Censorship in Britain, but the majority are taken from my own watching of the films (not quite all of which I have seen - and not all of which I would recommend).
